OFF SWITCH

Today, I slept. I took advantage of that brief time in between one draft's completion and the the arrival of new edits.

Yesterday morning was pretty funny because we both had late nights of working and both had to get up very early in the morning.

I'm always the alarm-turner-offer (or more accurately, the snooze-button-pusher).

Man, I am fast. Catlike reflexes.

Except, of course, when there has been no real sleep. Then it takes a little while.

The boy, he has never been good at the quick-draw-snooze-button pushing. He gets confused.

You know how it is...no real sleep. Then suddenly jarred awake by something.

My GOD, what is that noise!!???
("hello?"...nope, it's not the telephone)

Well, I thought that I was the disoriented one because it took me a few seconds to figure out where/who I was and where the snooze button was. Apparently, the boy was a little worse off, because in his own sleep deprived stupor, he was ALSO trying to find the alarm.

So, what does he do?

He reached over to a "switch" behind my ear and turned it off.

He even made a little "chhtchh" (switch going off sound).

He turned off my head.

Turned off. My head.
