(not) not my dissertation

On the hearing front, I have this amazing new patient. He has auditory hallucinations. Now, not your typical ringing (tinnitus) or other random noise, but full blown songs that he can hum to you. All the time. Mostly big band & patriotic kinds of things (WWII vet), but most recently...."Tiny Bubbles" by Don Ho (try taking that in a case history with a straight face...). He's been cleared by psych and is delightfully normal otherwise. I've tried to imagine what it would be like...not to just have a song stuck in your head, but to actually HEAR it. My new task is to try and "mask" this out with a tinnitus masker. He doesn't appear to be really annoyed by the music, but is just confused as to why it is happening. I wonder if he'll miss it when he's gone.

Oh, also, I found out today that his sister hears rock and roll.
